Paperwhimsy Deck of 52 cards!

This was a project I hosted with my PW group. 27 artists each created 2 playing cards using PW images. They made 27 copies and embellished them for the other players. They are all different images except for 2 cards which used the same image in a completly different way. I put the decks together and decorated metal boxes to hold the decks.
I wanted to share these beauties because the artists all did such meticulous and original cards! I did submit them to a publication for consideration and 10 months later they came back(thank you but no.)
So I am publishing them for you to see on my blog!!!!!Be sure and click on the photos for a really close look!

Using an encaustic iron for wax, I blended this paper with beeswax and oil pastels and then cut the circle out. Underneath I glued a PW image and added the butterfly over the edge!

Awards to the following........(so far)

I Love to look award! Please pass it on to your favorite bloggers!

My "Award" to blogs I enjoy seeing!!!

I have created this award for the creators of blogs I love to visit!!! I have always been a google-eyed nut and I felt that this image expressed my love of seeing the wonderful art creations and other news posted on various blogs. Of course there are hundreds of places left to visit, but I thought I would start with the blogs I read often. This award is from my heart because the artists post not only art, but news of family, friends, and their wonderful look on life!!!!

So, I am calling this the "I love to look" award! I hope you accept as intended, a genuine compliment!!!!!!

Little glass house class with Sally Jean!

My ephemera!2 sides, 1 end
Roof tops and other end!
When assembled you add a small battery light under the house and it glows!!!!!
If you ever get an opprotunity to take ANY class from Sally Jean, do not hesitate and do not walk....run to get in!!! I have tried for 4 years to get a class with her and I was always too late. They fill up FAST! I know why!!!! Most supplies are included except for papers and ephemera you wish to bring.! Clear instructions, she shows you each step, walks around class to help.....very fun personality and approachable!!!!

So, I didn't get my house put together, but I posted the elements I completed. I have 3 more sides to solder and then put house together. Most of the students finished their house in class, but I was close behind until I had to leave at 6:15 pm!

I'll tell you the story behind the my house when I post the completed photo!!!!

PS-THANKS SALLY JEAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

New header!!!!!

That's my mom standing up ,her sisters mary, and helen! The girls all rode horses and the guys around are the trainers and stable hands. The girls all were accomplished in dressage, sulky carts, english, sidesaddle, and my mom loved the western and pony tricks! They performed in many National horseshows all over the US. I have a box of news articles and 8x10 photos of them on their horses! The years when they were lucky enough to have the stables was when Gramps(their dad) was in the construction business(mid 1800-1930) and specialized in highways. He paved all the first streets on the island of Hawaii. He made a fortune 3 times . He lost it all in the late 30's.
That's another story!!!!

It all began with Artchixstudio!!!!!

My FIRST ever published piece in Somerset Studio .It was several years ago for a "girlfriends " challenge!
Atc (early years!!!!)
Atc(early years)
Atc.......VERY early years! Artchix was my very first Yahoo group(4-5 years ago). I was just discovering the fun of atcs and alteredart. I fell in love with the charming images and the friendliness of the group. The moderators "walked me " through most of all the data stufffffffffff, cause I was brand new at the computer! No one ever YELLED at me! I learned so much from the artists there and always appreciated their support and enthusiasm for my creations! This art represents "The early years" and my first publication!!!!!
Thanks Helga and all the other artchix!
I STILL like to play there!!!!!

Good night Helena.

I just learned of a special art friend who passed away today. I just got to Tahoe this afternoon. It is a dark night with no moon, but the stars are closer up here and they are much brighter. I think I spotted a new star .
I will miss you my friend.

Lost and FOUND!

14"x18" mixed media collage on canvas. Started in 1995 and "filed" with my unfinished art! I call it "the Little Old Winemaker". Images from Wine Spectator, napa valley magazine, old poster catalog, real leaves and painted leaves, along with bits and piecs of papers! Do I like it more today because I am finally comfortable being an artist ? I am glad I didn't throw it out!
